Organised junior competitions in South Wales started in earnest in 2008 largely thanks to the impending Super League promotion for Celtic Crusaders and the development opportunity it provided. For a number of years, clubs were set up fielding sides at random age-groups, but recently these have now settled into club formats with the most of the current set-up feeding into an open-age side.
These leagues have been breeding grounds for many Super League players and Welsh internationals, including Lloyd White, Elliot Kear, Gil Dudson, Ben Flower and Regan Grace, the latter a try-scoring winner in an under 14 Final in 2011.
Grand Final Day is always one of the highlights of the WRL season in South Wales and a history of this can be seen below.
